The Tyneside KPA manages our money so that we use as much as
possible to support renal patients. This means we use at least 75% of our income
to support patients. We do this by:
 | Producing a regular Newsletter that goes to all members by
post or e-mail. We do all our own printing and buying a duplex Hewlett
Packard Office printer can print off colour pages for just over 5p/side. We
have been paying the same for mono copies in the past. |
 | Donating money to the Welfare Fund run by Renal Social
Workers. This means they can give immediate help where needed. Last year
this amounted to £2,500. This year we are planning to donate £4,000. |
 | Subsidising our social events such as coach trips and our
Christmas Dinner. |
 | Buying items for the renal wards. |
 | Helping to stock the Resource Room in the new Renal Unit at
the Freeman Hospital. |
 | Supporting members who go to the National Kidney Federation
national conference by paying part of their costs. |
We do not give any direct financial support
to either patients or carers.
Our main sources of income are from:
 | Donations from a whole range of different people. |
 | The Freeman Hospital charity stall we run on Fridays. |
 | Stalls held at local events. |
 | Collection tins. |
 | Raffles. |
 | We have also obtained grants for specific purposes in the
past. These have included for equipment purchase and social events. |
We do not pay any of our fund raisers. All of them
contribute for us
as unpaid volunteers. We do cover their travel and other costs to and from
events. Our latest accounts show that 90% of our income is used to support
patients! This is very much higher than many charities
Changes in charity laws in 2006 have made our annual auditing
of accounts easier and cheaper. We no longer have to have a full audit but a
cheaper examination.
Our financial year runs from 1st July to 3oth June..
Beware of Unknown Fund Raisers!
There have been occasions when fraudulent fund raising
has happened locally. People have collected money in our name and we have never
seen a penny of it. So how do you know if a collector is genuine?
We collect cash in three ways only:
 | Using a blue collection tin that is clearly labelled Tyneside
Kidney Patients' Association and has an intact ring seal on the top. |
 | Raffles with proper ticket books with the name of the
committee member who acts as sponsor printed on them. |
 | Sponsored events when a person comes round with a
sponsorship form. Valid forms will have a watermark graphic on them. |
There are two other valid organisations raising funds in this
locality. They are:
 | the Northern Counties Kidney Research Fund (NCKRF). This
charity raises funds to support renal research work in Newcastle Hospitals. |
 | Kidney Research UK is a national fund raising organisation
raising money for renal research. |
If you are asked for donations by any other person or
organisation they may be fraudulent. They should have a charity registration
number, if they tell you they are applying for one don't trust them as its
almost certainly a scam. Please let us know if you come across any dubious
collectors or contact the police. |
